It’s the end of the day and I need to go out, but quite a few people have been asking me about the new SSD VPS machines from both SolidSeoVPS and PowerUp.
I have been busy testing their new ranges for the last 24 hours and I now have the results, but after updating the other two posts, I don’t have the time to write it all up properly.
So I am just going to post the outcome and the raw data and you can buy based on that.
This is all based on the Quad Core 4Gb Ram SSD Drive Options from each company.
Results after Novabench, Passmark & Crystal disk:
Basically there is really very little in it between 1st and 2nd. The benchmarks only differ on the SSD performance.
Weirdly the Solid EU version is only using an i7 4770 @ 3.4Ghz – but the speedier SSD & decent RAM seems to really benefit its performance.
The PowerUp has the Xeon E51620 v2 clocked at 3.70GHz and screams along effortlessly. Having the E5 chip gives you a warm feeling inside.
Unfortunately, the US SolidSeoVPS SSD just doesn’t seem to get going. Its running a decent Xeon E31245 V2 @ 3.40GHz chip but the RAM really appears to be letting it down.
Conclusion
Ok, this is a tough one. The SolidSeoVPS EU is $70 and the PowerUp is $77.
They are both top performing machines, but if it were me, I would get the PowerUp SSD because it has the E5 chip.
Even though the benchmarks point to the Solid, I think once that server gets a bit more action you will see the the SSD benchmarks drop and that would most likely edge the PowerUp ahead, as it does have the faster guts. I also would be happier knowing I had the newer server grade Xeon chip.
That said, the EU Solid SDD is an impressive machine and the stats confirm that…
Both companies deliver 1st rate support.
